A group of West Lancashire residents were invited to test innovations designed by local businesses to improve health and wellbeing.
Members of the Aughton and Ormskirk University of the Third Age (U3A) science group were introduced to the businesses by the Innovation Agency, the Academic Health Science Network for the North West Coast.
Health Innovation North West Coast is supporting businesses to introduce successful products to the NHS and social care.
A range of medical and physiotherapy products included a digital falls risk assessment tool; dementia friendly nostalgic activities; back pain products and an introduction to the benefits of Nordic walking.
Jack Brettle, leader of the U3A’s science group, said: “We had a busy and most enjoyable afternoon trying out and giving feedback on the products.
“One that raised particular interest among our members was Happy Days, a company specialising in aids for dementia sufferers and their carers, such as activity workshops, memory and chat prompts and reminiscence rooms.
“The event was very informative both for the potential users and the SMEs involved. Following its success, we look forward to holding a similar event with the Innovation Agency and a further group of SMEs in 2019.”
Health Innovation North West Coast’s commercial programme manager for Lancashire, Steve Adams, said: “Thanks to the U3A for allowing us to showcase our products. Their valuable views and feedback will help the development of these products and ensure they meet the healthcare needs of local people.”
